The Artist wins big at London Film Critics' Circle...

The Artist has danced off with three big prizes at the London Film Critics' Circle Awards.

It won film of the year, director of the year and Jean Dujardin was named best actor.

The best actress prize was split between Meryl Streep for The Iron Lady and Anna Paquin, for the drama Margaret.

Director Lynne Ramsay collected the British film of the year award for We Need To Talk About Kevin.

The Artist's Dujardin and director Michel Hazanavicius were both at the BFI Southbank event to accept their awards.

When asked for the reason why he thought the movie had been so successful, Hazanavicius said: "Maybe because it's a simple love story. It's universal. And there's a cute dog. People love cute dogs."

The black-and-white film, a tribute to Hollywood's silent era, won three Golden Globes earlier this week.

It is also nominated for 12 Baftas, and is expected to be among the Oscar front-runners when nominations are announced next week.
