Review: WT Feaster Band
WT Feaster Band - Juggling Dynamite (Mystic Records)
Opener ‘The Road is Mine’ is a pretty clear statement of intent as to where Juggling Dynamite is heading. Without the wash of Kevin Anker’s Hammond and Wurlitzer organs the WT Feaster band could well slot into the standard heavy blues trio format, albeit one fronted by an impressively versatile guitarist; but the added keyboard supplies a momentum that turns both the rockers (‘Nickel Soul’, ‘Love With a Lie’) and the jazz-tinged ballads (‘Found Yourself’, ‘I Can’t Let You Go’) into driving music of the highest order, channelling the memory or fantasy (delete as applicable) of cruising down the freeway with the top down, that is the stuff of rock and roll legend. The result is less Cream on a dreary day in the home counties and more Allman Brothers under a blazing Southern sun, and is all the better for it. Their unlikely take on Marley’s ‘Is This Love’ is worth mentioning not only because it imports its lightweight reggae into the very same context, but also because it actually works a treat.
