Glastonbury Festival: Bath artist's tree-figure sculpture installed

A large figurative sculpture by a Bath-based artist has been put in place at Glastonbury Festival.

Anna Gillespie's 'Tree People' has been installed as part of a 20ft-high gateway to the festival's Healing Field.

The sculpture is of two bark covered figures who will sit on top of the gate.

It was designed to be in keeping with the tree theme for the Healing Field at the festival which starts on 26 June.

The female figure will look down on the many visitors who will pass underneath, while the male will look across to the Pyramid stage.

Ms Gillespie, who works at her studio in Larkshall, Bath, said: "My sculptures often feature trees and so I was delighted to be asked to create these two tree people for the event.

"I have used bark chippings to create the finished texture as it's sustainable, cheap and recycled, which works perfectly within the theme of the festival.

"To be able to see festival goers, hopefully enjoying my work there, will be very special."

In May, two of Ms Gillespie's sculptures were featured in a gold medal winning show garden by designer and broadcaster Chris Beardshaw at RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
