"Emanuel and the Fear are like Rachel's wigging out to Zeppelin while in the background Steve Albini tickles Michael Nyman into submission... Enough orchestral synthesis to make ELO blush" - Guardian.co.uk
"Comprising of eleven classically trained musicians, Emanuel and The Fear make one heck of a big sound.. if their shows are as energetic and tumultuous as they sound on CD, then Emanuel and The Fear must be pretty special live." - The Line Of Best Fit
"Mixing The National’s sentimentality with the integrity of Eels, a dedicated cult following already awaits." - The 405
Emanuel and the Fear is a Brooklyn Rock Outfit (from here on out referred to as BRO). There are many BRO’s in today’s world, but Emanuel and the Fear is the only one that brings 1-200 band members to the stage depending on how they’re feeling that particular evening.
Selling out some of NYC’s most well-known venues and collecting fans such as David Byrne along the way, they’ve been known to sound like many things.. a synth pop band, a heavy metal act with strings, an Irish pub band, a riot, a summer storm, of 336 spiders/ants crawling up your legs and into your ears, a classic rock band, a really bad power ballad that despite knowing it’s really bad, everyone loves. They've also been likened to others such as Arcade Fire and members now play, or have worked with, The National, From Autumn to Ashes, Sufjan Stevens, Zao, Akron/Family, Ryan Star, and The Canadian Brass.
Having spent hours labouring in the studio for their first two releases (a self-titled EP plus debut album 'Listen'), the band took a more organic approach for 'Hands'. They wrote and rehearsed the tracks in the two months they toured Europe in 2010. They then recorded and mixed the whole record back in Brooklyn, in four days, mostly live in the studio.
'Hands' is released by Germany's Haldern-Pop record label and festival organiser. Emanuel And The Fear are here leading up to their second album release, set for Summer 2012.
The band may at any given time, have anything between 1 and 200 members but for now, it's:
Drums – Jeff Gretz
Bass – Gil Goldin
Synth/Vocals – Dallin Applebaum
Guitar – Dan Tirer
Flute – Nic Cowles
Violin – Tom Swafford
Violin/Vocals – Liz Hanley
Cello – Brian Sanders
Trombone – David Nelson
Trumpet – Chris Coletti
Guitar/Piano/Vocals – Emanuel Ayvas
