About this location
Managed by the Trust on behalf of Anglian Water, Rutland Water Nature Reserve is possibly the best know of the Trust's reserves and has become one of the most important wildfowl sanctuaries in Great Britain. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and has received recognition of its international importance by the European Community and has been designated as a globally important wetland. Use of the visitor centre is free but a charge is normally made for access to the reserve. There are 16 bird hides of which 12 are adapted for wheelchair access. Egleton village is situated 2km south east of Oakham off the A6003 (Oakham to Uppingham) road, car parking is free. Nearest railway station is Oakham 3km.
