Fronted by singer, songwriter and
multi-instrumentalist Travis Ward, Hillfolk Noir’s peculiar take on traditional
acoustic mountain music is filtered through a half-century of folk, country and
rock ‘n’ roll and fed by an affinity for medicine show culture and
Depression-era string-band blues. The band calls it Junkerdash, which has
multiple definitions up to and including “psychedelic swamp-shack rags.”
However, if you’re looking for something neat and tidy to place in print or
casual conversation, feel free to use current music-journalism parlance and
call it “indie folk.”

There are no half measures with Dick Gaughan. What you see is what you get and what you get is one of the cornerstones of modern traditional music. Dick Gaughan has never been easy. The songs he delivers ask questions that some listeners may have thought never existed - so they may not know the answers. When the answers duly come, delivered in a voice that throbs with a unique kind of controlled, vibrating passion, he can shake the most complacent mindset out of its skull.

Acoustic Souls
7Storeysoul are one of the Midlands’ most innovative
funk and soul bands. What sets them apart from other bands is their
refreshingly unpredictable and eclectic mix of imaginative funk driven
originals and 70s soul gems. The band were founded in 2005 by prolific
songwriter and 70s soul fanatic Mark Poole. Featuring Mark’s funky rhythm
guitar and the uniquely sweet and soulful voice of Laura Hughes, their sound is
underpinned by an ultra-tight rhythm section.
In addition to Mark’s original material, expect to
hear classics from such greats as Stevie Wonder, the Crusaders, AWB, Quincy
Jones, Bill Withers and the Staples Singers along with more contemporary
material by artists including rhe Brand New Heavies, Amy Winehouse and Beverley
Knight. 7Storeysoul are a must see for anyone with a passion for classic funk
and soul and an appreciation of a great tune!
