The Cornshed Sisters are all set to release their debut album ‘Tell Tales’ on 9 April 2012.

The album follows their debut single release ‘Dance At My Wedding’ , which is taken from ‘Tell Tales’. ‘The single will be released on 13 February, and is available for streaming now from their soundcloud at www.soundcloud.com/thecornshedsisters.

The Cornshed Sisters are Jennie, Cath, Liz and Marie. Less alike than these four peas you have never seen in the same pod. If they were raised as sisters it was by a Father who sang like an angel and by a Mother who loved the devil’s music. Guitar pop, folk tales, protest songs, country music, piano ballads and gospel must have all gone into the same soup from which these women supped.

Although unified in their musical tastes, as songwriters and interpreters The Cornshed Sisters display a healthy disregard for unity of subject matter (reminiscent perhaps of Randy Newman, Joni Mitchell or Richard and Linda Thompson). In these songs the ladies tackle water babies, beekeeping, marriage, soothsayers, men in sequined suits, making pies out of people and the axis of love and bombs. And, there’s some unusual stuff too.

Drawing on a palette of vocals and assorted acoustic instruments they convey these ideas with sensitivity and humour. Their four distinctive yet sympathetic voices range far and wide, recalling the emotive tangles of The Band as often as the choral elegance of The Roches.

The Cornsheds are all set to re play the following dates in the new year:

January 14th – Davy Lamp Folk Club, Sunderland – Double Bill With Jed Grimes
January 27th – Jumpin Hot Club, The Cluny 2, Newcastle – Supporting Ruth Moody (Wailin Jennys)
