The Mercury Prize nominated Unthanks and live
favourites Show Of Hands are among the headline acts set to appear at this
year's Towersey Festival.
Now in its 49th year - making it the UK's longest
running independent music festival - the five-day event runs from Thursday 22
to Monday 26 August 2013, and features an array of entertainment.
Other acts visiting the picturesque Oxfordshire
village are Bellowhead founders Spiers and Boden, father and daughter Martin
Carthy and Eliza Carthy, Home Service featuring War Horse songsmith John Tams,
renowned guitarist Martin Simpson, folk elder statesman Vin Garbutt, and
rising newcomer Lucy Ward.
In what can only be described as an eclectic line-up,
they're joined by Swiss Cajun punks Mama Rosin, global brass band Orkestra del
Sol, Gypsy jazz combo Manière des Bohémiens, and orchestral alt-folk act
Moulettes, whose former member Ted Dwane has found international fame with
Mumford And Sons.
While the music, which also includes over 30 hours of
ceilidh dance sessions, is a key focus, the festival also boasts poetry,
comedy, theatre, circus performers, visual arts, films, workshops, storytelling
and great food.
The popular Children's Festival features everything
from drop-in craft activities to baby reflexology, while the Shooting Roots
strand presents a programme of activities dedicated to, and run by, young
people, and boasting a wide range of artisan beers and ciders, the Real Ale
Festival is always a favourite!
"Towersey Festival has long held a reputation
for being a very special event, somewhere for people to relax and enjoy
themselves in a friendly atmosphere. That's something we're very proud of and
always strive for," says Joe Heap, Festival Director. “As we head towards
our 50th anniversary next year, our 2013 festival welcomes yet another great
line-up of big names and new stars. But the music is just part of the story -
there's just so much more going on..."
Tickets for the full festival start range from
£55-£110, with under 5s free. Camping available. Day tickets will be released
in April.
